About the Author
Ernle Bradford was born in 1922 and died in 1986. He was a noted British historian specializing in the Mediterranean world and naval topics. A readable, basic introduction to the sack of Constantinople by the Fourth Crusade.Don't be misled by the atrocious summary. No, this has nothing to do with the Holy Roman Empire or the "fall" of anything. Rest assured, the author knows the difference between the Byzantine Empire in the 13th century and Germany in the 19th.
I kept putting it down because it is so hard to believe that people can be so focused on themselves. They were able to rationalize everything. Everything.
Repeats the same information over and over while missing opportunities to cover other aspects in any detail. Vastly inferior to The Shield and The Sword.
I really enjoy it. I was not even aware of the fact that Constantinople was taken by Crusaders.Highly entertaining!
