Review

''This book is terrific! As the mother of a daughter and a son, it's something we will read together over and over again. I'm honored to be included and hope it can help convince more young people to go into these industries by piquing their interest early in their lives.'' --SUPERHERO Sonia Lo, Vertical Farmer ''This is fantastic! I love that (even as an adult) I get to learn about all of these extraordinary women heroes and what they are doing to positively impact the world. I also really appreciate the opportunity to learn more about so many different types of careers. I think this book is creating new worlds for kids (and adults) in so many ways!'' --Kelly D. Holstine, 2018 MN State Teacher of the Year ''This is a timeless work of art that is desperately needed for a 21st century learner. I believe that works like this will bring people back to a place where the imagination can guide opportunity rather than a reliance on existing innovation. From one's imagination comes innovation--just look inside.'' --Pamela Hampton-Garland Ph.D., University of the District of Columbia ''Twamley and Sneideman have created another great book for kids with Everyday Superheroes: Women in STEM Careers. With easy-to-read and understandable text and vibrant, engaging illustrations, they bring yesterday's and today's STEM Superheroes to life alongside a very comprehensive list of many of today's STEM Careers! It's almost a shame that the alphabet only had 26 letters limiting them to 26 careers. This book will inspire, will educate, and will engage today's kids (and some parents too) to learn more about the world around them and the careers ahead of them. It belongs in every classroom, on every nightstand, and in every backpack.'' --Mary Spruill, Executive Director, The NEED Project (National Energy Education Development Project) ''A much-awaited resource for parents and educators designed to guide learning and explore the world of the STEM fields. The Everyday Superheroes within these pages are real-world, accomplished professionals that all children can relate to and envision themselves as in their future. A must-have book for every home and library!'' --Nancy J. Watson, M.Ed., Director of STEM Professional Development and Programs ''This resource is a wonderful addition to any educator's or parent's library for cultivating a rich STEM career environment. Learners of all ages will begin to discover a variety of paths to be involved in STEM leadership post high school. The focus on women is especially needed today to encourage young women to pursue their passions for shaping our world. ''Now, more than ever, our students need to learn about STEM education. Not just about why it's important, but how they can chase their own passion in a pathway that will lead them to careers in STEM. This resource is a wonderful addition to any educators or parent library for cultivating a rich STEM career environment. Learners of all ages will begin to discover a variety of paths to be involved in STEM leadership post high school. The focus on women is especially needed today to encourage young women to pursue their passions for shaping our world.'' --Claire McGee, District Lead STEAM Coach, Metro Nashville Public Schools ''The attention to describing the careers as well as giving real-life examples is absolutely incredible. This book provides concrete examples for students and anyone wanting to know more about STEM careers and their impact on the world.'' --Rebecca Norton, Special Education Science Teacher"The authors have created an inspirational and accessible resource that will be particularly valuable for girls at a critical time in their educational life. It is an important contribution that will help ignite both boys' and girls' imaginations, especially for students who wander into a valley of disinterest that may divert them from pursuing STEM. It helps connect the dots from school subjects to real world professions and answers the perennial Why should I care? question. I highly recommend this book to students, parents, teachers, librarians and career counselors alike.'' --Dr. Michelle Fox, Educator and Technologist ''For parents of young daughters interested in science and seeking to find cool women to read about, this book solves both curiosities in a really engaging way. Adults will love reading this book with their kids and learn a lot too! Kids will like the connection and stories of real women engaged in these careers.'' --Linda Silverman, Former Solar Decathlon Director, Department of Energy ''Wow! While this book is designed for elementary and middle school kids, I learned a lot about STEM careers myself as well. The short bios about diverse women in STEM explained the latest technology in a clear, interesting manner. The artwork and graphics are very attractive and complement the writing.'' --Dr. Charles Robinson, International Education, Framingham (MA) State University ''Whether you look to the skies with dreams of space exploration, or peer into a microscope to get a closer look at the life that blooms in the tiny crevices of our world, this book will inspire you with a variety of paths to explore with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics! Explore the world, look with eyes filled with curiosity and wonder, and discover a world of Women in STEM who bring these dreams of science and technology to life!'' --Amy Oyler, The Scientific Mom ''From Earth's crust to outer space, and to all corners of the world, this book covers a vast array of STEM themes. The themes are presented in logical and captivating ways, making the book interesting and easy to understand. There is also a plethora of rich STEM vocabulary words to be learned. The interactive pull-outs add practical experience to theories and concepts. Very educational for a wide range of ages and levels.'' --Denis Sauve, Educator, B.S. / B.Ed. / M.Ed. / M.Ed.

This book is just amazing. Well-written in a language that kids can understand and engage with. Incredibly inspiring showing real life stories of women - making it more tangible, relatable and real. I never had this when I was growing up. When I showed my kids the book they were really drawn to it and have started to read it. Every mother should buy this for their daughter!

The book “Everyday Superheros” is a must read for kids of all ages! It introduces you to different women in science and gives a brief and compelling description of what each woman does and why it matters. Kids are introduced to career possibilities far beyond the scope of what they may have been exposed to in school – careers like civil and environmental engineering and astronomy are front and center. The featured women scientists are of all different races, ages and ethnicities so that kids can get an idea of the full range of diversity of women in STEM. Additionally, the authors outline the process of science with a focus on communication, collaboration, problem solving and curiosity as necessary components of good science, which is a welcome relief from the narrative that you must be naturally brilliant to be a scientist. As a mother, a woman, a scientist, and leader for the science advocacy group “500 Women Scientists” I highly recommend this book!

I got my copy from the Kickstarter but I have to tell you, the book is very cool. The book inspires! My 3 daughters ages 9,6,4 love looking at the pictures, reading to each other and simply having a resource in their library all about girls in STEM. I highly recommend the book to parents. I especially wish schools would have this in their library.
