Life was easier when stuff didn't move! But if stuff starts moving, start here. I love that they have worked out answers for half the problems in the back of book. I found the fundamental problems to be an adequate study guide for the tests. If you have a mean professor you better work um all though. The fundamental problems only cover what they say they do; the fundamentals.

This book is pirated. It’s printed on standard printer paper and bound together like a book. At one point in the book, the brand of printer paper switched and there is a visible difference. Not only that, but the inside covers are missing the fundamental equations pages. I’m very dissatisfied.

PROS:- conciseness: It doesn't spend pages trying to tell you 'F=0- example problems: the examples actually show a variety of scenarios, and not just the ones where they practically give you 3 out of the 4 variables in an equation.- problem sets: good range of difficulty; plenty to practice with- problem answers: basically 3/4 of all the problems in the book have answers in the back (except for chapter 7. there's a whole bunch with no answers for some reason). Generally if the problem number is divisible by 4, it's not there.- fundamental problem solutions: partial solutions to all fundamental problems are in the back. Even though they're not explicitly step-by-step, they're not bad. Plus the fundamental problems aren't that hard to begin with._____________________CONS:-weird notation and variable names: like for work-energy, Hibbeler uses T for kinetic energy for some reason. .-The actual principles explained in this edition(you know, the actual statics and dynamics?) haven't changed since the previous edition, or the one before that... or the one before that one. Come to think of it, how much of earth's physics has been drastically altered in the past 3 years? not much, if anything at all. But for some reason publishers are still compelled to push out a new edition every 3 years. Apparently our cranes and structures are in danger of flying into the sky, so now you'll have to buy this super awesome newly improved edition only to find out that it tells you the exact same thing the 12th edition did. But you won't know that until you spent $200 and opened the packaging._____________________Ranting aside... is it a good book? yeah definitely. It's probably one of the best textbooks I have, and I'll keep it after I graduate and for as long as I'm in the engineering world. But is it necessary to put out a new edition every 2-3 yrs and get professors all excited and force their students to buy it? no. See if you can convince your professor to let you buy an older edition for much much cheaper, especially if s/he uses mastering engineering.**If your prof doesn't use Mastering Engineering, keep in mind though, that the end-of-section problems in older editions are in a different order, and there are some new problems in here that weren't in previous editions.**(Then again, you can still buy an older version and just ask somebody with this edition to see if he'll let you take a picture of the exercise sets in his book. Problem solved.)

Of all my engineering books, the Hibbeler series books are the best looking books, they have excellent color pictures and the layout/organization and fluidity of the text is excellent. However, no one buys books for how they look, this book does a good job of providing derivations and explanations of equations; but, the problem sets at the end of each section are often much more difficult than the examples. The solution manual is readily available online via file hosting sites or torrents but the solutions are usually bare bones and the method of solution is usually harder than that taught by a professor. If your school plans to use this with the Mastering Engineering website be aware that this copy on amazon does NOT contain an access code to mastering engineering so you have to fork over the extra $55 for an online access code, take that into account when comparing vs the cost at the school library.

This text is very useful in developing mastery of Engineering Dynamics. It is filled with many everyday hands-on examples, simplified and explained in a concise, detailed manner to glean understanding. The text takes basic physical concepts and builds upon them to an extension of practical knowledge. Writings also contain hints and tips to avoid common problem-solving pitfalls. I've also used the Hibbeler text for Statics, 12th ed. and have been exceptionally pleased with its ease of learning.

Great book. The examples do a very good job at explaining the problems. The more difficult problems aren't explained that well though, but that's the purpose in a hard problem, to make you think. It has a great range of difficulty and builds your knowledge up to the tough ones. The fundamental problems helped a lot, especially with the steps in the back. I purchased the statics and dynamics in one, and at the end of statics I could see the book wearing some, but I used it a lot. I haven't finished dynamics yet so I will see how it holds up.

This book was essential to understanding Statics and has many good examples. There are a plethora of practice problems that condition you for an exam. I took this course as an independent study and struggled at first (know your physics), but through perseverance and practice I gained a good understanding of the material and completed the course with a B.I recommend this book.

If this is required by a class this will be less of a reason to get it and more of an early warning. The material in this book is extremely straight forward. I highly recommend you look at it carefully and understand everything it is trying to say. There are few examples to illustrate the ideas unfortunately and the homework plays more off what is said than what is shown. I recommend getting outside help, working in groups, or paying attention to any examples given in class to fully understand how this subject works.
